Mookie Betts--Baseball Quote of the Day

Image
Today's recipient of the baseball quote of the day is one of young, exciting players in the MLB---The Red Sox, Mookie Betts. In a matter of a few years, he has turned into one of the best players in baseball. His 2015 numbers were impressive but it was this year, that put him over the top as one of the star's of the league. Though Mike Trout was the MVP, you could easily have made a case for Betts who finished second--.318 BA, 113 ribbies, 31 Home Runs, 26 stolen bases, 122 runs scored and led the league in total bases with 359. To top that off, he was also a gold glove winner in the outfield. What a future for Betts. In honor of his great play, he receives today's baseball quote of the day. "He gives you a threat even as the game begins. He's an exciting player." --John Farrell, on Betts

Ted Williams Baseball Quote of the Day

The Splendid Splinter was in the news recently with the passing of John Glenn. Turns out that Williams was John Glenn's wing man in Korea. Two great American heroes. What can you say about Williams that hasn't already been said? The man was a master with the bat and his service to our country as a major league baseball player puts him in the pantheon of great Americans. Lots have been said about him. In www.baseballquotations.com , we have over 130 quotes by and about him. Today's baseball quote of the day about Williams is one of my favorites, "He had a count of no balls and two strikes on him and figured he had the pitcher in the hole." --Jim Lemon, on Ted Williams

Baseball Quote of Day--Harmon Killebrew

Image
Being the cool guy that I am, I wear a lot of vintage Hall of Fame tee shirts....lots of all-time greats, but no matter where I go, the one that I get the most response to is Harmon Killebrew. Even in upstate New York, he is still a beloved figure. Killer was a hell of a ball player. He was as strong as most any player of his era as reflected by his six American League home run titles. He played for the Senators-Twins from 1954--1974, ending his career with the Royals in 1975. He was a 13 time all-star and 1969 MVP. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1984. http://www.harmonkillebrew.com/ Of his great power, Paul Richards said of Killebrew, "He has enough power to hit home runs in any ballpark--including Yellowstone."

Chris Sale---Baseball Quote of the Day

Chris Sale has been the most talked about player in baseball over the last few days. The blockbuster trade that brought him to the Red Sox is the talk of baseball. Now they are even more stacked then they were last year. How good is Sale? Well you should hear what the opposition says about him. Case in point, Anthony Rizzo's comments about his former crosstown rival. "He's the best in the biz....He made us look silly, but that's what he does."--Anthony Rizzo, on Sale
