Image
Today's recipient of the baseball quote of the day is one of young, exciting players in the MLB---The Red Sox, Mookie Betts. In a matter of a few years, he has turned into one of the best players in baseball. His 2015 numbers were impressive but it was this year, that put him over the top as one of the star's of the league. Though Mike Trout was the MVP, you could easily have made a case for Betts who finished second--.318 BA, 113 ribbies, 31 Home Runs, 26 stolen bases, 122 runs scored and led the league in total bases with 359. To top that off, he was also a gold glove winner in the outfield. What a future for Betts. In honor of his great play, he receives today's baseball quote of the day. "He gives you a threat even as the game begins. He's an exciting player." --John Farrell, on Betts

Baseball Quote of Day--Harmon Killebrew

Image
Being the cool guy that I am, I wear a lot of vintage Hall of Fame tee shirts....lots of all-time greats, but no matter where I go, the one that I get the most response to is Harmon Killebrew. Even in upstate New York, he is still a beloved figure. Killer was a hell of a ball player. He was as strong as most any player of his era as reflected by his six American League home run titles. He played for the Senators-Twins from 1954--1974, ending his career with the Royals in 1975. He was a 13 time all-star and 1969 MVP. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1984. http://www.harmonkillebrew.com/ Of his great power, Paul Richards said of Killebrew, "He has enough power to hit home runs in any ballpark--including Yellowstone."

Hilarious Baseball Quote of the Day for December 4th---Bo Belinsky

Image
There are very few Gen Xers or Millennials who know of Bo Belinsky. That's too bad. He was the baseball playboy of the early-mid 60's. Ann Margaret, Amy Van Doren ('I needed her like Custer needed Indians', Belinsky once said), Playboy Playmates of the Year and who knows who else were part of the women that Belinsky was rumored to 'spend time' (G rated blog) with. While Belinsky had raw talent (as demonstrated by his no hitter in his first season as an Angel), the conventional wisdom was that his after (and pre) game celebrations greatly hampered his career. Well whatever the reason, the career 28 win and 51 loss Belinsky was a funny and charismatic guy. He had lots of very funny quotes (including the free one we gave you about Mamie Van Doren). Today's Belinsky quote was about the score of a game he pitched. "How can a guy win a game if you don't give him any runs?" --Bo Belinsky, after losing a game 15-0 Love baseball quotes tha...
